If you would like to supprt Stuart Grace and the Piam Brown Ward please read the original letter below from Stuart to new sponsors. Stuart is grateful to all gift donors that will help raise money for this good cause.

Dear Reader

The Piam Brown Ward is the Wessex Regional Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Ward, based at Southampton General Hospital. The Ward treats children from one day old to 18 years and its patients come from Hampshire, Dorset, West Sussex, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands.

The Ward treats all types of cancer and receives around 80/90 new cases each year, of which around one third have leukaemia, the most common childhood cancer.

One of the main reasons for the charity day is to say thank you to the ward for helping Joe Walsh, a close family friend, who contracted leukaemia aged 3½ years.

The Ward aims to support patients and families through the dedicated work of a multi-disciplinary team of three consultants supported by doctors, nurses, psychologists, dieticians, pharmacists, research and data staff, social workers, secretaries, support and play staff.

Funds are needed to support this highly specialist family unit. Money is spent to assist in the purchase of complex medical pumps and monitors. We work to support the play and teaching staff plus the dedicated team of McMillan nurses.
Your Help will assist the ongoing research and education programme, and provide much needed outings and social occasions for all the families.

I will be undertaking the 2009 Golf/Cycling Challenge in conjunction with the Rotary Club and details of the event and how you can contribute are given on this site. Please make the Piam Brown Ward your chosen charity for 2009.

Thank you for your support
